Can I add my teen’s income to mine if it increases my Earned Income Credit?

My 16 year old earned $600 at Kmart and $1600 working at a summer camp for kids. She worked as a contractor for the summer camp and I know she should file her own taxes. I want to put her on my taxes if possible because we will receive more EIC. Can I legally put her on my taxes? She is my dependent and does live with me.

You cannot add your daughter’s income to your return, even if it increases your Earned Income Credit (EIC).

The IRS is very strict about the EIC.

If they think you committed fraud in an attempt to get more EIC, they will cut you off from getting EIC for 10 years into the future! And they could charge you a penalty, too!

Don’t do it!
